Now in its 12th year, the much loved McGings Open Exhibition returns exploring the theme Kintsugi; the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery and adorning its scars with precious metals. It is the art of embracing damage and not discarding broken things, of cherishing the imperfect and loving the mended.

In response I chose to illustrate my my border terrier Bundee Aki who was recently run over by a car, crushing both her hips and back legs, tearing her diaphragm, liver and intestines. In the true spirit of Kintsugi, the amazingly talented people at Ark Vets Galway repaired my little broken dog with an assortment of artfully placed metal screws, plates and staples.
