Dublin Canvas is a public art project based in Dublin intended to bring flashes of colour and creativity to everyday objects in the City. The project takes previously unused public space and transforms it into canvases to help brighten up the City. The open brief asks designers to visit their chosen location and respond to that specific setting. I decided that I would like to design a box along my commuting route, the Grand Canal Greenway. My commute is one of my favourite parts of the day, a time for reflection and a little pause, bridging home and work life. However, I’ve noticed many people who rush by, pushing by others, looking glumly at their feet, seemingly oblivious to their surroundings. I want my design to encourage people to appreciate the smaller moments of their day and stay open to the possibilities offered by their natural surroundings.
